TOKYO ― Tokyo Symphony
Music Director Hubert Soudant will lead the orchestra in a performance in
Dalian, China, on July 27. It will be his first international performance with
the orchestra, and The Tokyo Symphony will be the first Japanese orchestra to
perform in Dalian. The concert is part of the Dalian Summer International
Festival, July 20 – 30, 2010.
This will be the
Tokyo Symphony’s third visit to China: The orchestra visited Beijing and
Shanghai in 1986, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, and returned to Beijing
in 2006 to mark its 60th anniversary.
The program for
the concert in Dalian will include Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and
Brahms’ Symphony No.1, works which the orchestra under Mr. Soudant’s direction
has performed to acclaim.
“I
look forward with great anticipation to my first international performance with
The Tokyo Symphony,” said Music Director Hubert Soudant. “I am honored and
excited to share with the Dalian audience the fruits of my partnership with the
superb Tokyo Symphony musicians. We will be performing masterpieces by two
great composers. I hope our performance will enrich the audience’s musical
experience.”
“We
are very pleased to perform overseas for the first time with Music Director
Hubert Soudant,” said Junji Ohno, Managing Director of the Tokyo Symphony.
“Maestro Soudant has led the orchestra to the first-class level. We are deeply
grateful to the Dalian Summer International Festival organizers and to the City
of Dalian. I hope this performance proves an important first step to
international tours.”
